D49, nomata "Papeloze Kerk" (senpapa preĝejo) estas eksterordinare bela koridoreca tombo. Ĝia stranga nomo devenas de la kutimo de la protestantoj en la 16 jarcento kunveni kaŝe ĉi-loke por sekretaj diservoj.
La ĉambro longas 12,1 metrojn, larĝas 4,7 metrojn kaj estas orientata al 61°30′.
Ĝi konsistas el 12 flankŝtonoj, ambaŭ finŝtonoj kaj ses kapŝtonoj. Krome kvar portalflankŝtonoj kaj siaj kapŝtonoj ĉeestas, kiel ankaŭ 28 ringŝtonoj. Tamen ne ĉiuj ŝtonoj estas originaj. Kelkaj estas alportataj pro kompleteco de la tombo, kaj tiucele domaĝe necesis oferi la nesaveble rompitan tombon D33.
Kiam Van Giffen esploris "Papeloze Kerk"-n en 1959 li ĝin priskribis kiel "en priplorinda stato". Kvar kapŝtonoj, du flankŝtonoj kiel ĉiuj portalŝtonoj devis esti serĉotaj aŭ anstataŭotaj.
Poste la tombon oni duone subterigis unuaflanke pro protekto kaj duaflanke la vizitanto tiel povas vidi kiel la tombo aspektis kiam ĝi origine estis uzata kiel mortintejo.
La tombo estas atingebla el Schoonoord direkte al Sleen kaj Emmen laŭ la ĉefstrato N376. Proksimume 1,5 km ekster Schoonoord dekstraflanke troviĝas aŭtoparkejo. Ĵus tie en la arbaro troviĝas la tombo.
D49, die "Papeloze Kerk" (Papstlose Kirche) ist ein ausgesprochen schönes Ganggrab. Seinen ungewöhnlichen Namen hat es von der geschichtlichen Begebenheit her, daß es im 16. Jahrhundert von Protestanten heimlich als Versammlungsort benutzt wurde.
Die Grabkammer ist 12,1 m lang und 4,7 m breit und nach 61°30′ ausgerichtet.
Sie besteht aus zwölf Tragsteinen, den beiden Schlußsteinen und sechs Decksteinen. Außerdem sind noch vier Portaltragsteine und zwei Portaldecksteine vorhanden, ebenso wie 28 Kranzsteine. Dennoch sind diese Steine nicht alle original; einige sind von andernorts herbeigebracht, um das Grab so gut es geht zu vervollständigen. Dadurch mußte das ohnehin rettungslos zerstörte Grab D33 aufgegeben werden.
Als Van Giffen 1959 die Papeloze Kerk untersuchte, beschrieb er das Grab als "in erbärmlichem Zustand". Vier Decksteine, zwei Tragsteine und ebenso alle Portal- und Kranzsteine mußten gesucht oder ersetzt werden.
Danach wurde das Grab halb unter einem Erdmantel gebettet. Dadurch wird es zum Einen geschützt und zum Anderen kann der Besucher einen guten Eindruck gewinnen, wie das Grab ursprünglich ausgesehen haben mag.
Das Grab ist von Schoonoord
aus in Richtung Sleen und Emmen über die N376 zu erreichen. Etwa 1,5 km
hinter dem Ortsausgang befindet sich ein Parkplatz auf der rechten Seite, dort
im Wald liegt das Grab.
D49, called "Papeloze Kerk" (popeless church) is a extraordinarily beautiful passage grave. Its strange name derives from the custom of the protestants in the 16th century to gather secretly at the grave for their hidden services.
The chamber is 12.1 meters long and 4.7 meters wide and oriented to 61°30′. It consists of twelve sidestones, both endstones and six capstones. Moreover there are four portal sidestones with both capstones, as well as 28 kerbstones. Anyway, not all of the stones are original. When Dr. Van Giffen explored the tomb in 1959 he described it as "in a pitiful state" It was even necessary to give up D33 to offer its stones for D49. After being restored it was half coverd under a new barrow so that it is somehow protected and the visitor can get a good impression how the grave might have looked 5000 years ago when it was in use.
The grave can be reached from Odoorn in direction to Sleen and Emmen via main-street N376. About 1.5 km behind the exit of Odoorn on the right side there is a parking and just there in the forest you find the grave.
